Cakes

Giraffe Cake:
This is one of my favorite cakes! I just loved how it turned out! The fact that I did this cake in record timing might have something to do with why I like it so much....  haha    In total, including the baking time, this cake only took me like 2 hours to do. ( which for me is super fast!)  This started out as just a experimental cake but it proved to be useful in the end. My Dad teaches a class for Senior Adults at my church and they were having an activity so we took it and they all really enjoyed it.

Mom's Birthday:
This was my second attempt to make a cake. My main focus for this was the chocolate flowers. I did not have any previous experience using modeling chocolate but I loved it. I made my own from scratch using a recipe I found online. I found it very pliable and easy to work with. It tasted somewhat like a tootsie roll. My nieces and nephew enjoyed smelling, playing, and eventually eating them. There is actually a funny story behind the candles. No, my Mom was not turning 611. For some reason, my whole family, my Dad included, thought that our Mom was turning 63, when she was really only 62. After having already bought and stuck the big number candles for 63 in the cake, my Mom made a comment about turning 62 right before we brought the cake out. In a mad rush, my sister and I repaired the cake and found two random candle to represent the number 2. The story eventually came out and we were busted. Great memories with the family! Happy birthday to the greatest Mom ever!

Mother's Day:
This was the cake I made for my Mom for Mother's Day 2010. I was able to experiment with the flavors a little bit and it turned out to be a great success! I just used a yellow cake and for the filling, I mixed a can of crushed pineapple with cool whip and a pack of vanilla pudding mix. It was a definite hit with my family. Happy Mother's Day! I love you Mom!

Sweet Sixteen:
This cake was definitely fun to make! I enjoyed the chance to be able to connect with my "girly" side. This was made for a very sweet girl, Cayla Key. Happy Birthday!

Graduation Cake:
This is the cake I made for my brother Rick when he graduated from college. As you can see, he graduated with a degree in business. This was the first cake I tried to make that was shaped and sculpted into anything. I really enjoyed making this cake. There were close to 35 people at his party and there was tons of cake left over so I'd say it would feed close to 50 people in total.

Jeep Cake:
Here is the first grooms cake I ever made. This was for my boyfriend's brother's wedding. The groom drives a greenish colored jeep and had requested that it be incorporated into his cake. This was the first big cake that I had made that was going to be for someone outside my immediate family so as you can imagine, I was pretty nervous  considering it was for such a big occasion. In the end, everything worked out fine though and I think they were very pleased with the end result. Everything on this cake was edible. The jeep and rocks were made out of rice krispy treats covered in fondant.

Baseball Cake:
Even though I had to betray my home team, ( Go Braves!)  I enjoyed making this cake. The hat and foul poles were made from gum paste. For the hat, I basically made each part separate. The dome of the hat was first, then I shaped and attached the bill. The stitching and logo was put a day later after it was totally dried. This was a birthday cake for a coworker's son. Happy Birthday!

First Wedding Cake:
Here is my first ever wedding cake!! Boy was I nervous....  The fact that the most important day in a girl's life could have been totally ruined because of me kept me up pretty late on the nights leading up to the delivery. In the end, I was fairly happy with the way it turned out. Considering the fact that I have had no formal training in how to stack or transport something of this magnitude, it went great! The bride had requested live flowers so they were not hand made. It was a great experience and I'm glad I accepted the challenge. Thanks Samantha for giving me the opportunity! I wish you guys a lifetime of happiness!

Baby Converse Block Cake:
This shoes on this cake were made as an experiment. It was sort of a practice run to make sure I would be able to make them correctly. As it turned out, a young family in my church had just had a baby boy the weekend before I made this so I ended up making the little block part last minute and giving the cake to them so the little shoes wouldn't go to waste. Everything always works out for the best! Congrats St. Cyr family and welcome baby Tyler!

Happy Birthday Tammy Thompson! I made this cake for my boyfriend's mom's birthday. I enjoyed being able to practice a little more on my rose making skills. This time however, I used gum paste. I definitely learned my lesson when it comes to food coloring with this cake. Initially, it was supposed to be somewhat of a light, baby pink....   haha    With food coloring gel, a little bit goes a long ways!

I had a blast attempting to make my first chocolate collar! Talk about making a mess....   This was my boyfriend's 2oth birthday cake. He isn't a big fan of cake or icing but he loves cookies so I made him a four layer chocolate chip cookie cake with a tiny bit of chocolate icing in between. Since it was so ugly on its own without any icing to cover the sides, I decided I must attempt one of those chocolate collar things I had heard so much about. It turned out pretty good for my first try. As you can see, I filled in the top with another of his favorites, chocolate covered strawberries. He absolutely loved it and he still claims it as his favorite!  Yay! Happy Birthday to an amazing boyfriend! I love you Tyler Thompson!!

This was my first attempt at making a polo shirt cake. It was for a coworker's wedding. The groom was said to wear basically nothing but polo clothes so this cake was very fitting. It was a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. I learned a lot from this cake and it was fun to make.

High Heeled Shoe & Box Cake:
Girly cakes are so much fun to make! The shoe was made from gum paste and was as big as a size 81/2 shoe. After the sole and heel were formed, it took about 2 days for it to dry and harden completely. I learned a whole lot from making this cake. It was a birthday cake for a coworker's daughter. Happy birthday Anna!

Zebra Purse Cake:
This is my first purse cake. It was definitely harder than I thought to shave and sculpt the cake portion to look like I had original planned it. In the end, I loved it! The zebra may have had a big something to do with that....   haha    Again, this was for another coworker's daughter's birthday. I hope you had a great day. Happy birthday!!

Pink Baby Converse Shoe Cake:
This is the cake that the blue shoes were a practice for....   I think this cake turned out pretty cute. I absolutely love making the bows now! This was a baby shower cake for a precious little girl named Charlotte.

Shirt and Tie Cake:
Below is the cake that I made this past year for my Dad for Father's Day. He is the associate pastor at our church so he wears a shirt and tie  basically everyday of his life so this cake was more appropriate than ever. He really liked it a lot. I honestly have the best Dad in the world! Happy Father's Day!! I love you tons!!

Black and White Polo Shirt Cake:
Here is another polo cake. This customer sent me the picture of the shirt he would be wearing to his birthday party and asked if I could make a cake to match. In comparison to the other shirt cake, the lines were made a lot thicker and were spaced farther apart. This cake went a little smoother than the first one due to the fact that I knew what to expect and plan towards.
